PrompterPal

Free, no sign up

A teleprompter in your browser, right now and for free

Paste your text, set the pace, speak into the camera. Nothing to install, no account, no trial period. Your text stays in this browser on this device.

Your text is not uploaded and not stored. It sits in your browser storage, and a button in the prompter deletes it again.

WELCOME

TANJA

Good to have you here. In the next two minutes I will show you how to write your first script.

[click on Projects]

We start with projects, because that is where every script lives.

After that we look at the remote, on the device you are holding anyway.

This is what the prompter looks like while it runs. 140 words per minute 1:48 left

In three steps

From script to take

  1. 1

    Paste your text

From Word, from an email, from your head. Speakers get an at sign, chapters get a hash.

  2. 2

    Set the pace

Type size, reading line and words per minute. Or let the text follow your voice, and the pace sorts itself out.

  3. 3

    Speak into the camera

Full screen, mirroring for the beam splitter, black screen between two takes. The screen stays on.

An honest split

What is in here, and what needs an account

The rule is simple: everything that runs in the browser alone is in here. Everything that needs a server, a project or a lasting address belongs to an account.

In here, without an account

  • Speakers, chapters, stage directions and pauses
  • A steady crawl in words per minute
  • Keyboard and foot pedals, freely assignable
  • Three fonts, five colour schemes, three contrast levels
  • Follow along by microphone: the text follows your voice
  • Chapter jumps, mirroring, upside down, black screen, countdown
  • Reading time, time left and a clock
  • Editing mid-run, saved on the device

This needs an account

Not hidden away but listed here, with the reason next to it.

  • The phone as a remote, and the second prompter for your guest. Both hang on a project.
  • Offline mode. On this page the prompter keeps running as long as the window stays open, but it does not put itself into the device.
  • Several scripts, projects, versions, import from Word and PDF, export.
  • Teamwork: colleagues, share links and sign-off by your client.
  • Your own AI with your own key. We supply none, we only pass it through.

Questions

The usual ones, briefly answered

Is this really free?
Yes. No account, no credit card, no trial period and no watermark. With us you pay for teamwork, volume and your own AI, not for the prompter itself.
Do I need an account?
Not for this page. You need an account once several scripts, a second device or other people come into it.
Where does my text sit?
In your browser storage, on this device. It is not uploaded. Safari clears that storage after about a week without a visit, and in a private window it is gone as soon as you close it. A button in the prompter deletes it right away.
Does this run on the iPad?
Yes, and that is exactly what it is built for: full screen, mirroring for the beam splitter and a screen that does not fall asleep. It works on a phone too, only the distance to the camera is usually too short there.
How do I write speakers and chapters?
A line starting with an at sign is a speaker, a line with a hash is a chapter. What stands in square brackets is a stage direction and does not count. The model is Fountain, the standard for screenplays as plain text.
